Cycling in Greece
From the flat land in Naples, FL to the diverse and challenging landscape in my homeland.
I need to learn how to ride in elevation.
Cycling Obsession
In May of 2018, I received a call from my doctor; you have Type 2 diabetes he said. I was overweight after an ACL in 2010, moving less over time and not eating healthy. Time to turn my life around! Started working with a nutrisionist and slowly I started walking more and I was able to start using again my bike which was a heavy (heavier) hybrid. After a month, I was able to do 3.5 miles at the lightning average speed of 12.5 m/h. By the end of December 2018, I had lost 55 pounds and I was riding 150 miles a week. In February of 2019, I run a Half Marathon in Miami and then a Triathlon relay.
Fast forward to today, I typically try to ride 6,500-7,000 miles per year and my regular pace is 20-22 m/h. That’s of course on the flatland in Florida. I average about 18.2/18.3 m/h without my commuting rides.
During a recent trip to Greece, I did a short ride in Zakynthos which was great, before a herniated disk made me unable to stand or walk. Working through it and hopefully will be able to ride again soon. Fingers crossed!
Riding on hills and mountain will be tough but fun.
